Videos from the Edible Garden!

August 22, 2009

After the 3rd summer workday – Saturday August 8 – the new Edible Garden is planted and ready for you to see!  Now, instead of walking past an underused, grassy courtyard you can meander through the walking paths of an edible landscape.

THANK YOU to all the parents, students, community friends and especially Bountiful Backyards for making it all happen!! It was a full day of digging, planting, and spreading mulch and wood chips.

There’s still more to come – we’ll be adding a bit more mulch and wood chips, adding some temporary seating for classrooms to gather, installing a cistern and a compost bin … and more!  Also, we’ll be adding signs so everyone can learn more about what’s in the garden.  Stay tuned for opportunities to join us in the garden.

In the meantime, check out these videos on YouTube:

Part 1: A slideshow of before, during and after photos.

Part 2: Sarah of Bountiful Backyards preps a bed for a Venus Fly Trap.

Part 3: Planting one of five blueberry bushes with the students. Keith of Bountiful Backyards tells us how long it’ll be before we’re eating blueberries and how to grow bursting-with-berry bushes.

Part 4: See some of what’s going in the ground at the school garden.

P.S. If anyone would like their image removed from the YouTube slideshow, just contact Edible Garden Committee Chair Alice Bumgarner at alice.b@earthlink. net.
