Clean playground thanks to NCSSM on MLK Day

January 25, 2011

Students from NC School of Science and Math spent MLK Day at GW

Have you noticed fewer gumballs on the Watts playground? A tidier and more defined walking track, free of leaves? It’s all thanks to some students and staff from the NC School of Science and Math (NCSSM). On MLK Day, fifteen motivated and hardworking 11th and 12th graders raked, raked, filled yard waste bags, and spruced up our walking track, liberating it from a layer of leaves.

The work done for our school was part of a NCSSM day to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy through cultural learning and community service. Click here for more information on NCSSM’s annual MLK celebration.

Much thanks to Ariel Carpenter, Katy Fenn, Natasha Nazareth-Phelps and all the students for a job well done!”

PS – Last year, NCSSM students also helped George Watts on MLK Day.  Click here for our story on the 2010 MLK work day.
